It is based on optical navigation technology, which measures changes in position by optically acquiring sequential surface images (frames) and mathematically deter- mining the direction and magnitude of movement. The sensor is housed in a 16-pin staggered dual inline package (DIP) that is designed for use with the HDNS-2100 Lens and HDNS-2200 Clip and HLMP-ED80-XXXXX (639 nm LED illuminator source). There are no moving parts, and precision optical alignment is not required, facilitating high volume assembly. The output format is two channel quadrature (X and Y direction) which emulates encoder photo- transistors. The current X and Y information are also available in registers accessed via a serial port. Default resolution is specified as 400 counts per inch (cpi), with rates of motion up to 14 inches per second (ips). Resolution can also be pro- grammed to 800 cpi. The part is programmed via a two wire serial port, through registers. Theory of Operation The ADNS-2051 is based on Optical Navigation Technology. It contains an Image Acquisition System (IAS), a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), a two-channel quadrature output, and a two wire serial port. The IAS acquires microscopic surface images via the lens and illumination system provided by the HDNS-2100, 2200, and HLMP-ED80-XXXXX LED. These images are processed by the DSP to determine the direction and distance of motion. The DSP generates the ∆x and ∆y relative displacement values that are converted into two channel quadrature signals. |
