Thefirststagekeepstheoutputvoltageconstantovervariationsin line,load,andtemperature.Thesecondstageusesatransformer toprovidethefunctionsofinput/outputisolationandvoltagestep- downtoachievethelowoutputvoltagerequired. Both the first stage and the second stage switch at a fixed fre- quencyforpredictableEMIperformance.Rectificationofthetrans- former’soutputisaccomplishedwithsynchronousrectifiers.These devices,whichareMOSFETswithaverylowon-stateresistance, dissipatesignificantlylessenergythanSchottkydiodes,enabling theconvertertoachievehighefficiency. The series of half-brick, quarter-brick and eighth-brick converters usestheindustrystandardfootprintandpin-outconfiguration. CONTROLFEATURES REMOTE ON/OFF (Pin 2):TheON/OFFinput,Pin2,permits theusertocontrolwhentheconverterisonoroff.Thisinputis referencedtothereturnterminaloftheinputbus,Vin(-). The ON/OFF signal is active low (meaning that a low voltage turnstheconverteron).FigureAdetailsfourpossiblecircuitsfor drivingtheON/OFFpin. REMOTE SENSE(+) (Pins 8 and 6): The SENSE(+) inputs correct for voltage drops along the conductors that connect the converter’soutputpinstotheload. Pin8shouldbeconnectedtoVout(+)andPin6shouldbeconnect- edtoVout(-)atthepointontheboardwhereregulationisdesired. Iftheseconnectionsarenotmade,theconverterwilldeliveran outputvoltagethatisslightlyhigherthanitsspecifiedvalue. Note:Theoutputover-voltageprotectioncircuitsensesthevoltage acrossthesenseleads(pins8and6)todeterminewhenitshould trigger,notthevoltageacrosstheconverter’soutputpins(pins9 and5). OUTPUT VOLTAGE TRIM (Pin 7):TheTRIMinputpermitsthe user to adjust the output voltage across the sense leads up or down according to the trim range specifications.SynQor uses industrystandardtrimequations. Todecreasetheoutputvoltage,theusershouldconnectaresistor betweenPin7(TRIM)andPin6(SENSE( –)input).Foradesired decreaseofthenominaloutputvoltage,thevalueoftheresistor shouldbe: Rtrim-down= (100%)_2kW ∆ where ∆% = Vnominal–Vdesired x100% Vnominal OpenCollectorEnableCircuit Figure A: Various circuits for driving the ON/OFF pin.
