2 / 19 page  1999 March 15 2 Philips Semiconductors Product specification Brushless DC motor drive circuit TDF5140A FEATURES • Full-wave commutation (using push/pull drivers at the output stages) without position sensors • Built-in start-up circuitry • Three push-pull outputs: – 0.8 A output current (typ.) – low saturation voltage – built-in current limiter • Thermal protection • Flyback diodes • Tacho output without extra sensor • Position pulse stage for phase-locked-loop control • Transconductance amplifier for an external control transistor. APPLICATIONS • VCR • Laser beam printer • Fax machine • Blower • Automotive. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The TDF5140A is a bipolar integrated circuit used to drive 3-phase brushless DC motors in full-wave mode. The device is sensorless (saving of 3 hall-sensors) using the back-EMF sensing technique to sense the rotor position. QUICK REFERENCE DATA Measured over full voltage and temperature range. Notes 1.
