I/O Port Control Registers
EachI/OporthasitsowncontrolregisterknownasPAC,PBC,PDCandPEC,tocontroltheinput/
outputconfiguration.Withthiscontrolregister,eachCMOSoutputorinputwithorwithoutpull-
highresistorstructurescanbereconfigureddynamicallyundersoftwarecontrol.EachpinoftheI/O
portsisdirectlymappedtoabitinitsassociatedportcontrolregister.FortheI/Opintofunctionas
aninput,thecorrespondingbitofthecontrolregistermustbewrittenasa″1″.Thiswillthenallow
thelogicstateoftheinputpintobedirectlyreadbyinstructions.Whenthecorrespondingbitofthe
controlregisteriswrittenasa″0″,theI/OpinwillbesetupasaCMOSoutput.Ifthepiniscurrently
setupasanoutput,instructionscanstillbeusedtoreadtheoutputregister.However,itshouldbe
notedthattheprogramwillinfactonlyreadthestatusoftheoutputdatalatchandnottheactual
logicstatusoftheoutputpin.
